A survey conducted by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has projected an increase in the price of sugar and cooking oil.
In the Agriculture January 2025 report, stakeholders explained that the price increase would be necessitated by the rise of global prices.
Therefore, agricultural stakeholders noted that the prices could slightly go up in February.
"On balance, sampled respondents expect prices of sugar and cooking oil (salad) to increase slightly in February 2025, reflecting developments in the global market, where prices of these items have edged up in the recent past," read the report in part.
"However, the price of cooking fat is expected to remain unchanged."

Likewise, other food items are set to increase owing to seasonality and the low rainfall witnessed between October and December 2024.
The most affected items include vegetables such as tomatoes and spinach.
"Prices of kales/sukuma wiki, traditional vegetables, cabbages, spinach, tomatoes and potatoes are expected to be relatively higher in February 2025 compared to January 2025, some reflecting seasonality factors while others reflect the impact of inadequate October-December 2024 rainfall," CBK noted.
"Expected price changes for various varieties of rice are mixed, with an expected modest price increase for aromatic and non-aromatic while prices of brown rice and broken white rice are expected to remain more or less unchanged in February 2025."
