President Donald Trump's administration has named Kenya among 10 countries imposing unfair trade measures on the US.
In a statement by the United States Trade Representative on Tuesday, April 8, Kenya was put in the spotlight over its tax policy on corn produced in the US.
According to the US government, Kenya imposes a 50% tariff on corn imported from the US.
As a result, many US businesses in the corn industry have been limited from accessing the Kenyan market.
Therefore, the trade representative's office indicated that they would be pushing for reforms to ensure that they can access the Kenyan market easily.

"Kenya imposes a 50% tariff on imports of US corn, and imposes burdensome regulatory requirements, effectively blocking US exports of corn. Kenya's market for feed corn is currently estimated at USD 50 million, with a potential to grow by 30% by 2027," read the report in part.
"Securing market access for American farmers will ensure they can compete on a level playing field."
The Trump administration has been pushing for reciprocal tax measures to promote local businesses in the US.
Notably, owing to the tariffs imposed by Kenya on US imports, Trump imposed a 10 per cent tariff on Kenyan exports.
However, Kenya was among the countries facing the least tariff rate.
