Juma noted that some oil marketing companies have been hoarding fuel and diverting cargo to the export markets.

CS Monica Juma has assured Kenyans that the country has sufficient fuel stocks.

Addressing the press on April 14, Juma noted that some oil marketing companies have been hoarding fuel and diverting cargo to the export markets.

Juma said that the fuel crisis has been created and exacerbated by actions that are threatening the energy security of this nation.

"The country has sufficient fuel stocks. We have determined that some players are hoarding fuel with hopes that a review in prices will provide them with a financial windfall.

"The government will not tolerate any entity that is causing artificial distress. Any entity that is not ready to work within the laws of Kenya they are invited to leave the market," Juma stated.

The Energy CS also mentioned that action has been taken against oil marketing companies that increased fuel prices during the distress period.

"During the stress period, some retailers were offering petrol at increased prices consequently, they have been issued with show-cause letters by EPRA. Whoever is found in breach, we will take stern action against the entities," Juma said.

She added," The Ministry has sanctioned a process of reallocating the petroleum import capacity, the oil marketing companies that sold above their capacity will benefit from additional capacity while those who sold less will be allocated less fuel."
