President William Ruto has made a personal donation of Ksh500,000 to the family of Malkia Striker Janet Wanja.
At the memorial service held in Nairobi on Thursday, January 2, the Ministry of Sports also announced that it would be donating another Ksh500,000 to the family.
According to the officials, the money was donated to the family to assist with the funeral arrangements.
While Ruto was not present for the service, he sent a condolence note to the family and friends of the volleyball player, celebrating her success over the years.

"She was arguably one of the finest sportswomen who broke barriers to beat records. Wanja was humble yet a tireless giant whose mental strength and discipline were unmatched," he noted in his message.
"Kenya is lucky to have had such a great lady who served with honour, zeal and dedication."
Wanja died on December 27, 2024, after battling cancer.
During her playing days, she represented Kenya at many international games including the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
At the time of her death, she was the fitness trainer of Malikia Strikers and was part of the coaching staff during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
