In the Best Female Artist East Africa category, Kering competed against Tanzania's fast-rising star Zuchu and Nandy

Kenyan singers proved their music prowess yet again in the just concluded All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) held in Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday, November 21.

A good number of Kenyan musicians won awards, flooring their neighbouring East African counterparts.

Nikita Kering pulled a surprise on many after she bagged two awards namely Best Female in East Africa and the Best RnB and Soul artist.

In the Best Female Artist East Africa category, Kering competed against Tanzania's fast-rising star Zuchu and Nandy. Others were Afrie (Uganda), Karun (Kenya), Mary Zerabruk (Eritrea), Rema Namakula (Uganda), Rosa Ree (Tanzania) Xenia (Kenya) and Spice Diana (Uganda).

In the Best RnB and Soul category, a continental group, Kering beat Adenkunle, Elaine, Oxlade, Wizkid, Tems, T'neeya, Gyakie and Omah Lay to be crowned the victor.

In her victory acceptance message, Kering said: "I did not do this alone, I did with you. Thank you and thank God".

Sauti Sol group on the other hand bounced back to the continent's limelight after they were feted with the Best Group or Band in the continent award.

The group shared a message of gratitude to their fans for voting for them and also supporting their music journey.

"Thank you for the award that we won tonight. We thank you our fans and everybody who voted for us, we dont take it for granted," they said in a video they shared on Instagram.

Sauti Sol faced off with The Isomers (Nigeria), Toofan (Togo), Mi Casa (South Africa), Chelsy and Nsoki (Angola), Caveman (Nigeria), Blaq Diamond (South Africa), B2C (Kampala Boys) and Ajebo Hustlers (Nigeria).

Another Kenyan who dazzled at the awards is 13-year-old Shanah Manjeru who won the Best African Female Artist in the Inspirational Music category.

Hornsphere, another Kenyan music group was also feted with Best Artist in African Jazz category award.

In another East African category, Uganda's singer Eddy Kenzo bagged the Best Male Artist East Africa category.

Tanzania went without any award despite dominating in terms of the number of artists nominated for various awards in the continent.
