Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta is credited with digitizing most of State House communications and making it easier for the public to access and engage with content from the presidency.
When he ascended to power in 2013, he ensured that a functional website and social media channels were launched for his office.
He also created personal social media pages where his handlers would issue updates regarding his whereabouts.
However, due to pressure and what he termed as the unruly nature of Kenyans on Twitter, he deactivated his accounts and opted to share communications through State Houses' official pages.
After vacating office, the former Head of State opened new social media pages under the name 'Office of the 4th President of Kenya' which he uses to share updates in his capacity as African Union's Peace Envoy.

On Twitter, the former president's account had over 58,000 followers as of 29 June 2023, but it only followed six accounts.
Of the six, four are of foreign leaders and regional bodies. The foreign leaders followed by Uhuru on Twitter are Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye and Moussa Faki, the President of the African Union Commission, while the regional bodies are African Union and the East African Community.
Interestingly, the former Head of State only follows two Kenyans; Nzioka Waita and Ambassador Macharia Kamau.

Waita served as the Chief of Staff and head of President Uhuru's Delivery Unit from 2017 to 2022.
He resigned in the run-up to the August 2022 general election to contest for the Machakos Gubernatorial seat which he lost to Wiper Party's Wavinya Ndeti.

Prior to being appointed the president's chief of staff, Waita had served as deputy chief of staff and deputy head of public service.
On his part, Amb Macharia is a career diplomat having had several stints at different United Nations agencies. Some of his latest assignments include serving as Kenya's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York and Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Although no official communication has been issued, it is believed that Amb Macharia is among the team working with the former president in his AU envoy role.

Ambassador has been accompanying the ex-president to several meetings and events across the continent with the latest being on 3 June 2023 when they attended a summit in Luanda, Angola.
Despite being a political leader, the former president does not follow politicians in the country.
