National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee has asked President William Ruto to suspend four IEBC commissioners who distanced themselves from results announced by IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati.

The four are Vice Chair Juliana Cherera, commissioners Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyangaya.

JLAC has also asked President Ruto to form a tribunal that will probe the four IEBC commissioners over allegations of gross misconduct during the August 9, elections.

“The committee recommends that the President suspend the four Commissioners herein pending the Tribunal verdict,” Gitonga said.

This now sets the stage for robust debate this afternoon before the House.

The removal process of the four commissioners has elicited sharp criticism from the opposition leaders with ODM leader Raila Odinga calling for mass protests.

Raila had called for mass protest beginning Wednesday but had to postpone until further notice.

The rally that was to culminate into a peaceful demonstration within the city centre will now take place on December 7.

Addressing a press conference after the coalition's Parliamentary Group meeting at SKM Command Center in Karen, Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi said the decision was to allow for the completion of ongoing national examinations.

“We have to reschedule the start of our public engagements to December 7 due to the ongoing national examinations," Wandayi said.
