Raila Odinga on Monday held a rally at Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi and sent demands to President William Ruto.

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero now claims that Nyanza residents have turned against Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga and now support President William Ruto.

Speaking on Wednesday, January 25 during an interview with K24, Kidero asserted that the Nyanza politicians noted that Raila Odinga had lost the grip of the region when President William Ruto visited the area recently.

“He (Ruto) visited Nyanza first time, the leaders who support Baba ran away and left him because Baba did not allow them to go and meet Ruto. Two weeks ago the President came and Baba allowed them to meet Ruto, the people of Nyanza welcomed Ruto our President kwa mayowe na vigelegele but what they found out is that the people of Nyanza had already gone to Ruto before the leaders came,” Kidero stated.

Kidero who unsuccessfully vied for the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat in the 2022 general election went on to say that Raila Odinga’s Kamukunji rally is a way of looking for relevance after losing his followers.

“What is happening now I believe Baba discovered that the people whom he thought were his had already left. So basically what is trying to do is to reinvent himself because the people who he thought were his have gone and are already working with the government,” he added.

Kidero slammed Azimio's Kamukunji rally for disrupting operations when schools were opening for a new term.

"Having a rally on a day when kids are going back to school is not right, even if they wanted to resist, they should have chosen another day and not interrupted the resumption of schools," Kidero remarked.
