Lawyer Cliff Ombeta has dismissed claims that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji dropped charges against former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i following meetings by leaders from the Gusii community.
Ombeta in a tweet on Tuesday, March 14 stated that the charges were dropped since there was no sufficient evidence to back them.
“The only reason Matiangi was released by DPP, is because there was insufficient material to go by. Handled Professionally. All those other theories of who went where or did what and chest thumping and limelight hogging were not issues before DPP. There was no horse trading,” said Ombeta.
Matiang’i on Sunday night held a private meeting with a section of Gusii leaders among them Education CS Ezekiel Machogu.

During the meeting, Matiang'i is said to have set the record straight regarding his woes with the current administration.
He noted that his focus was now to work on his private activities saying that is why he has never attended political rallies or even a church function.
