President Ruto To Jet Out Of The Country Ahead Of Azimio Demos

President William Ruto is expected to jet out of the country on Sunday, March 26 for a four-day visit to Germany and the Kingdom of Belgium.

According to a statement from State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, President Ruto will meet with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for bilateral talks aimed at strengthening Kenya and Germany ties before delivering a keynote speech at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue.

“President Ruto will also deliver a keynote address at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue, outlining the challenges of energy security amidst the worsening climate crisis and the push for investments in renewable energy, in Kenya and Africa. Kenya will also explore partnership with Germany on the youth agenda, specifically in vocational education and training,” the statement read in part.

The Head of State will then fly to Brussels where he will meet with Belgium Prime Minister Alexander De Croo for talks around health, security, trade, and investment among other issues.

“In Brussels, the President will meet H.E. Alexander De Croo, Prime Minister of Belgium and discuss mutual areas of interest including, health, addressing Kenya's food security and drought response, climate action, trade and investment,” the statement added.

Ruto will further meet with European Union leadership including European Union Council President Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

“His meeting will reinforce Kenya's commitment to the Kenya EU Strategic Dialogue, to deepen the partnership between Kenya and the European Union, under the three key pillars of Peace, Security and Stability; Sustainable and Inclusive Development; and, Economy, Trade and Investment,” Hussein announced.

The visit coincides with Azimio la Umoja nationwide anti-government protests slated for Monday, March 27 and Thursday, March 30.
