Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has accused President William Ruto of diverting funds meant to build the Koru-Soin Dam in Kisumu County.
Speaking on Thursday, May 11 in Ahero, Kisumu County Raila claimed that the previous regime had put Ksh 1.5 billion into the project but the current government has diverted the funds to other projects.
Raila also claimed that the contractor who was given the project had already reported to the site but had been withdrawn.
“The money that has gone to visibility studies of flood control and irrigation in Ahero exceeds the amount of money required to build the project. We were going to start it with Kibaki but it did not happen, Uhuru finally agreed to implement the project. Last year, the government put Ksh 1.5 billion this was together with Mamboleo-Muhoroni highway.
“Unfortunately despite the fact that the contractor had already reported to the site, that contractor has been withdrawn by this government and the money that was earmarked for this project has been diverted to other projects,” Raila claimed.

The former Prime Minister also stated that the Sondu Miriu dam has not been listed among the twelve dams that the Kenya Kwanza government is planning to build this year.
“There are 12 dams in the current budget and Sondu Muriu is on one of them. This is because Mr. Gachagua said that the Kenya Kwanza government is a shareholder company. The people of Nyanza have no shares in government despite them paying taxes,” Raila added.
