Bungei warned that attempts to access the CBD will be thwarted using the full force of the law.


Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei has fired a warning to the Azimio La Umoja coalition saying protesting at the Central Business District will not be allowed. 

Bungei who addressed the media on Friday ahead of Azimio's Saba Saba protests said Azimio are only allowed to hold their rally at Kamukunji grounds.

He warned that attempts to access the CBD will be thwarted using the full force of the law.

"We have permitted the Azimio Coalition to hold their rally only at Kamkunji Grounds. They are required to exercise their rights according to the law. Otherwise, street protests won't be allowed," Bungei said. 

The Azimo coalition on Thursday said they will be marching to the Nairobi Central Business District after holding their rally at Kamukunji grounds.

Opposition MPs led by Nairobi county ODM chairman George Aladwa said all is set for the Friday Saba Saba rally.

They said the opposition brigade will march to the city centre in fresh anti-government protests.

Aladwa addressed a joint press conference alongside MPs Babu Owino (Embakasi East), Antony Oluoch (Mathare), Peter Orero (Kibra) and a host of city MCAs.

“We will meet in clusters here in Nairobi and after our respective rallies we will demonstrate peacefully towards the town centre, we have a good programme and we ask all Kenyans to converge here from 9 am,” Aladwa announced.

Raila and other Azimio principals are expected to join them in their push against Ruto.
