No One Has The Power To Stop Our Demos – Azimio

The Azimio la Umoja Coalition now says no one has the power to stop the anti-government protests that were announced by ODM Leader Raila Odinga on Friday last week.

Addressing the media on Monday, July 17 at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Waandayi said the three-day protests scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week will go on as planned.

“The peaceful protests planned for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week are on as earlier declared by our leaders. These protests will go on in line with Article 37 of the constitution which provides the freedom of peaceful assembly and picketing.

"No person has got the power to suspend the operation of Article 37 of our constitution. Not even William Ruto, Kithure Kindiki or Rigathi Gachagua. Those purporting to stop demonstrations are deluding themselves,” said Wandayi.

The Ugunja MP went on to say that Azimio’s signature collection drive will go on side by side with the anti-government protests.

His remarks come after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki warned the opposition against the protests.

Speaking on Saturday Kindiki said the government is on alert to deal with the chaos that will arise from the demonstrations.

"My brothers in the opposition, please let's do our politics, let's put out our policies in a peaceful manner. If you think you'll hide behind a constitutional right to destroy property, killing Kenyans and meting violence on Kenyans; try that and you will regret it," he said.

The Interior CS said that last week’s protests went on due to a hitch in the national security structure, which he swore would not happen again.
