It has now emerged that President William Ruto held a private meeting with Raila Odinga in Mombasa County, Azimio has confirmed.
In a statement read by Peter Munya on Sunday, July 30, the coalition said the meeting was facilitated by former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo.
According to the opposition, the meeting was to prepare for discussions between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio.
“We sanctioned a meeting between our leadership and that of Kenya Kwanza, under the facilitation of H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo. This initial meeting was to prepare ground for honest discussions of the issues we have been raising and those that Kenya Kwanza feels like raising. The meeting was therefore a talk about envisaged talks,” Peter Munya announced.
A the same time, the Raila Odinga-led coalition accused the Kenya Kwanza of trying to deny Obasanjo's presence in the new talks.

“We take note that Kenya Kwanza is trying to deny H.E. Obasanjo's presence and leadership of the talks. That would be a very unfortunate development indeed. It points to Kenya Kwanza now institutionalizing the culture of deceit and taking it to the global stage,” Munya added.
The former Meru Governor pointed out that his coalition's priority is on the high cost of living, audit of the 2022 general elections, and inclusivity.
Ichung'wah had announced that they agreed to discuss the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), implementation of the two-thirds gender rule, and entrenchment of Constituency Development Fund.
Other issues were the establishment and entrenchment of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition and the embedment of the Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary.
