President William Ruto has nominated late billionaire businessman Chris Kirubi's son-in-law to a plum government job. 

President William Ruto has nominated Andrew Mukite Musangi as Chairperson of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

Musangi is the son-in-law of the late billionaire businessman Chris Kirubi and is a non-executive director at Centum Investment Company Limited.

The nomination was announced on Thursday, August 17 by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.

“I wish to convey a message from His Excellency the President regarding nomination of a person for appointment as the Director of Public Prosecutions. In the message, His Excellency the President nominates Andrew Mukite Musangi for appointment as Chairperson of the Board of the Central Bank of Kenya,” Wetangula stated.

He forwarded the nomination to the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning for vetting.

Ruto picked Musangi from six individuals who had been shortlisted by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The candidates also included; Abdikadir Aden, John Konchellah, James Wahome, Thomas Mwadeghu, and James Lopoyetum.

If approved by the National Assembly, Musangi will replace Mohamed Nyaoga who has completed his maximum two terms at the helm of CBK. Nyaoga exited CBK alongside former governor Patrick Njoroge.

Musangi boasts a Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of Hull in the United Kingdom.

Before the nomination, Musangi served as the Chairperson of the Public Procurement Oversight Authority a position he was appointed by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2021.

He also served as the Chairperson of the Jubilee National Executive Board ahead of the 2017 general election.
