Governors Gladys Wangs (Homa Bay), Ochillo Ayacko (Migori), James Orengo (Siaya) and Anyang Nyong’o (Kisumu) have called on Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to deploy General Service Unit (GSU) officers to Sondu.
In a joint statement on Thursday, October 5, the four governors said attempts by local police officers to quell the clashes in Sondu have been futile and proposed GSU officers to be sent to the area
“Attempts by the police to re-establish security, law, and order have been futile. In fact, the police from the Kericho side have either shown substantial support for the warriors or turned a blind eye to their attacks on our people. We strongly propose that the government urgently sends a contingent of GSU to that area to restore peace and security,” read the statement in part.
The Nyanza governors also claimed that the Sondu clashes have resulted in the death of seven people, several herds of cattle stolen and homes burnt down.
“The issue of the boundary between the two counties should be settled expeditiously using lawful and proper government procedures,” the governors added.

CS Kindiki on July toured the area after another violent attack claimed several lives and left many nursing injuries.
The Interior CS pointed out that the attacks were orchestrated by criminals who did it under the guise of border disputes.
“Those who committed crimes on Wednesday in this town were not doing so because of border disputes, they were doing so because they’re criminals and they have joined together with other criminals who want to destroy our country,” said Kindiki.
He also announced that the government will facilitate peace-building efforts between the communities living in border towns nationally.
