Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has admitted to making a mistake on the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat in the 2022 general election.
Speaking on Wednesday, November 15 during a meeting with religious leaders at Westlands Primary School in Nairobi, the former Prime Minister said Azimio lost the Nairobi Governorship to Kenya Kwanza because they did not field the right candidate.
"We did not win the governorship not because we lacked support, but because the candidate we had was not suitable, that's the reason. If we won the Senate, Women Representative, and the presidency, how could we lose the governorship?” he posed.
The opposition chief regrated dropping Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi in favor of Jubilee Party’s Polycarp Igathe.

Raila had suggested Wanyonyi be given a running mate slot but he declined the offer and requested to be allowed to vie for the Westlands seat again.
"I regret it myself because I was the one who told Tim to quit. Tim, being a gentleman, accepted. Initially, we were suggesting that he be the running mate, but he declined and asked he be allowed to return to Westlands,” Raila added.
Azimio in April 2022 unveiled Igathe as its Nairobi gubernatorial candidate with Philip Kaloki as his running mate.
The duo however lost to Kenya Kwanza’s Johnson Sakaja and James Muchiri who were running on a UDA ticket.
Sakaja garnered 699,392 votes while Igathe received 573,518 votes.
