The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has announced that Vincent Kirimi who is the main suspect behind the murder of Meru-based blogger Daniel Muthiani popularly known as Sniper will remain in police custody until January 8, 2024.
In a statement on Wednesday, January 3, ODPP stated that Kirimi was arraigned before a Kiambu Court where it sought orders to hold the suspect for twenty-one days pending the conclusion of investigations.
“Upon hearing the parties, the Chief Magistrate's Court, Kiambu adjourned the matter to 8th January 2024 when the Ruling will be delivered. The Suspect, Vincent Murithi Kirimi Alias Supuu O Mioro shall remain in Police Custody until 8th January 2024,” read the statement in part.
At the same time, the ODPP mentioned that DPP Renson Ingonga has directed an application filed at Maua Law Courts to be withdrawn and formed a team constituted of senior prosecutors to guide the investigation of the murder of Sniper.

The DPP further directed the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to forward the resultant murder inquiry File to his office within seven days from the date hereof.
“Upon receipt of the Murder Inquiry File, the DPP undertakes to review the facts and evidence contained therein in line with the Constitution of Kenya, the ODPP Decision to Charge Guidelines of 2019 together with the relevant laws and issue appropriate directions concerning the matter,” ODPP stated.
Meanwhile, the ODPP also directed IG Koome to forward the resultant murder inquiry file of Kenyan-born Uganda Athlete Edward Kiplagat within seven days.
The ODPP noted that two suspects behind the murder of the athlete were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate's Court in Eldoret and Principle Magistrate ordered the two suspects be detained for twenty-one more days.
The case will be mentioned on January 24, 2023.
