Wilson Airport is set to undergo a major facelift in the latest government plan aimed at improving the country's aviation sector.
According to the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), the government has set out an ambitious plan to build a modern passenger terminal.
KAA revealed that the government is also keen to expand and repair the runway to enable the airport to increase its aeroplane handling capacity.
As part of the plan to give Wilson Airport a new face, the Airport Authority disclosed that a modern parking garage will be constructed at the facility.

The rehabilitation plans were revealed during a meeting attended by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, KAA Board chair Caleb Kositany and other stakeholders in the aviation sector.
"Before the meeting, the team toured Wilson Airport, focusing on plans for a modern Passenger Terminal, Parking Garage, and the repair and expansion of the facility's runway and apron to enhance operations for air operators and stakeholders," the statement read in part.
The move is aimed at reducing the pressure on the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and bolstering the country's aviation sector.
This comes a day after CS Murkomen announced plans to set up another airport in the country. Murkomen noted that Matulo Airstrip in Bungoma will be upgraded to an airport.
"To further enhance the movement of people and goods, the Government is upgrading the Matulo Airstrip to an airport. The runway will be extended to 1.2km of tarmac and a terminal building put up," he stated.
"During the construction, locals will get jobs and business opportunities," Murkomen added.
