Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Thursday, April 18 announced that the Nairobi County government would put up a nightclub at Uhuru Park.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony of Uhuru Park from the Ministry of Defence To Nairobi County, Sakaja said the county would give tenders to businessmen interested in building a nigh club at the Park.
The Nairobi Governor said the move is part of removing noise from night clubs that have been set up at estates.
"There is a nightclub that needs to be here. We said and agreed that you should stop making noise in the estates. Come and party here and shout till the cows come home.
"Whoever wants to build the club on this side can come and build it because we want to bring entertainment back to the CBD. Before it used to be here CBD and Baricho road and parts of Westlands,” said Sakaja.

At the same time, Governor Sakaja said the Nairobi County Government would enter into public private partnerships (PPPs) to set up additional projects at Uhuru Park including restaurants and hotels.
“We are going to issue tenders and expression of interest for the business facilities that are here. We have restaurants that need to be run. We need a PPP for people to build a hotel, biosphere restaurant, African restaurant that is part of plan and a Swahili restaurant,” Sakaja added.
Further, the UDA Governor said entry to Uhuru Park would be free however Kenyans would be required to have identity cards.
Uhuru Park was closed to the public in February 2022 by the now-defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) for a facelift.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Wednesday said the park will be out of bounds for political rallies.
“That park will never again be used by politicians to address rallies, it is out of bounds. Those of us in the political class will look for another venue so that Uhuru Park and Central Park belong to the residents of Nairobi and other Kenyans,” said Duale.
