Following the heavy rains experienced on Thursday, May 2 and the resultant traffic along Mombasa Road, Kenya Railways announced a change to the departure of the night train from Nairobi- Mombasa.
Kenya Railways announced that the night train would depart at midnight instead of the stipulated time of 10:00 pm.
The extension was attributed to traffic jam and the need to ensure no one is left behind.
"We wish to notify members of the public that the 10:00 pm night train shall depart at 12:00 a.m. This adjustment is as a result of the heavy rainfall which has affected movement on the roads," Kenya Railways announced.

"In a bid to ensure that no one is left behind, we have extended the departure time in order to give passengers ample time to arrive at the Nairobi Terminus," the notice added.
However, Kenya Railways did not clarify for how long the extension of departure time would run.
Elsewhere, Kenya Airways also delayed some departures due to traffic jams in the city. The national airline assured travellers they would receive two confirmation messages to catch flights.
"Due to the heavy rains and heavy traffic on the roads in Nairobi affecting our passengers and staff, we may have extended delays for some of our departures out of Nairobi. If your flight is affected, you will receive an additional message on email or via text," Kenya Airways announced.
"We apologise for the inconvenience caused to our customers. The safety and well-being of our crew and customers is our number one priority."
The delays were caused by the flooding of Mombasa Road causing major traffic on the Expressway and the other non-tolled road.
Imara Daima and General Motors areas were heavily affected by the flooding situation.
