The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has cautioned Nairobi residents of three stray lions sighted in the Lang’ata area.

In a statement on Thursday, May 16, KWS said it received reports that the three lions were spotted near the Lang’ata Women's Prison in Nairobi.

KWS noted that it dispatched the KWS Problem Animal Control team to search the area on Wednesday night but no lions were found.

“Last evening, Kenya Wildlife Service received reports of three lions allegedly sighted near Langata Women's Prison in Nairobi.

“In response, the KWS Problem Animal Control team promptly mobilized and conducted a thorough search of the area throughout the night. Despite their efforts, no lions were found,” read the statement in part.

KWS said it would continue to monitor the situation to ensure the safety of members of the public.

The service urged Kenyans to stay vigilant and to report any sightings of the three lions for immediate intervention.

“KWS continues to monitor the situation closely and remains on high alert. Ensuring the safety of the public is our top priority. We urge residents to stay vigilant and report any wildlife sightings to the KWS 24- hour hotline number 0800 597 000 or WhatsApp 0726 610509 for immediate intervention,” KWS added.
