Kenya Railways disclosed that the services would resume on Monday, May 20.

Kenya Railways has announced the resumption of commuter services on the Nairobi-Ruiru route.

In a notice on Friday, May 17, the corporation disclosed that the services would resume on Monday, May 20, with the train departing Ruiru Station at 6:10 a.m.

However, Kenya Railways indicated that the Kahawa train, which normally departs at 9:00 a.m. from Kahawa West, is still suspended until further notice.

"We are pleased to inform the public that the Nairobi-Ruiru Commuter train service will resume on Monday, May 20, 2024. In line with the normal schedule, the train will depart Ruiru station at 6:10 am and arrive at Nairobi Central Station at 7:30 a.m." read part of the notice by Kenya Railways Managing Director.

The corporation previously announced suspension of commuter services in many parts of the nation due to the heavy rains that were causing flooding rendering rail transport impossible.

However, as the rain continued to subside, Kenya Railways began to resume the services gradually.

On Monday, May 6, Kenya Railways informed commuters that train services would resume in some parts of Nairobi

These included Embakasi Village, Lukenya, The SGR Link train, and Syokimau. However, the company warned that the services might be reviewed anytime due to the changing weather patterns.

"We also wish to advise the public that commuter train services are subject to change at short notice, depending on weather conditions and other safety considerations. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to restore normalcy," Kenya Railways stated.
