Eight passengers who were injured in the accident were rushed to the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Five people have been confirmed dead after being involved in a nasty road accident on Saturday, May 25 morning along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The accident happened at 3:30 am after a 14-seater matatu belonging to Eldoret Cross Roads Shuttle Sacco collided with a trailer near the Salgaa area in Nakuru County.

According to reports, the matatu which coming from Eldoret heading to Nakuru rammed into the rear of the truck that disappeared soon after the accident.

Five passengers died on the spot. The five include four women and one man.

Kenya Red Cross in a statement said eight passengers who were injured in the accident were rushed to the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital for medical attention.

“Eight injured people were taken to Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital, thanks to the joint efforts of the Kenya Police, Kenya Red Cross and well-wishers,” Kenya Red Cross stated.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to the Nakuru County morgue pending identification and postmortem.

The wreckage of the matatu was towed to the Salgaa police station for inspection.

The accident comes barely a week after six people were killed in a road accident along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway.

The gruesome road accident happened on Monday, May 20 involving a 16-seater matatu from the 3NT Sacco and a Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer.

The driver of the trailer, which was heading to Nakuru, lost control and rammed into an oncoming matatu that was heading to Eldoret.

The bodies of the six passengers were moved to the Eldama Ravine Sub-County Hospital mortuary while the injured passengers were taken to Burnt Forest Sub-County Hospital
