The KDF soldiers helped the woman give birth to a bouncing baby girl.

A sub-unit of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers deployed at the Gherille Forward Operation Base (FOB) in Wajir County aided an expectant mother to successfully deliver a baby while on patrol.

In a statement on Wednesday, May 29, KDF stated that the woman, Mrs. Quresha Mungay, had travelled from Somalia to seek delivery services at the Gherille dispensary.

However, due to the limited capabilities of the facility, the soldiers in patrol took up the task and helped Mrs. Mungay deliver a baby girl in 30 minutes.

"The mother had travelled from Gherille (Somalia) and sought delivery services at the Gherille (Kenya) Dispensary which has limited medical capabilities.

"The patrol with the limited medical resources available managed to facilitate a safe delivery within 30 minutes, much to the relief of the mother who had been in labour for a couple of hours," KDF stated.

KDF soldiers delivered the baby successfully.

After the safe delivery, KDF stated that the soldiers handed over the baby to the Gherille health facility for postnatal care.

"The mother, Mrs. Quresha Mungay gave birth to a healthy baby girl weighing approximately 3.5 kilogrammes. The mother and the new born were later handed over to the Gherille health facility for postnatal care," KDF stated.
