The national carrier Kenya Airways has intimated that all passengers and crew aboard flight KQ 670 which suffered a bird strike while landing at Kisumu International Airport are safe.
In a statement on Thursday, May 30, KQ stated that the plane was temporarily stuck on the runway after the incident, which occurred at around 6:36 pm on Thursday.
The airline disclosed that the lane could not exit the runway fully after encountering mechanical problems due to the bird strike.
"Kenya Airways confirms that on 30 May 2024 at around 18:36hrs, KQ 670 had a bird strike while landing at Kisumu International Airport resulting in the aircraft being temporarily stuck on the runway.
"The aircraft landed safely in Kisumu, however, it was not able to exit the runway fully as the bird strike affected the aircraft steering components. All passengers and crew on board since disembarked the aircraft and are safe," KQ stated.

The airline further indicated that they were working with relevant authorities to have the aircraft removed from the runway and resume normal operations at the airport.
KQ added that the passengers on affected flights will be provided with updated travel information and assistance as needed.
"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and assure our passengers of their safety and comfort as our highest priority," KQ stated.
