The UDA Electoral and Nomination Disputes Resolution Committee (ENDRC) has flagged a statement issued by the party's acting secretary general Cleophas Malala which referenced the committee.

In the statement issued by Malala on Thursday, May 30, the UDA secretary general wrote to the party's members in West Pokot County informing them of the postponement of constituency-level elections.

Malala claimed that the decision had been made after rulings issued by the party's ENDRC.

"In adherence to the UDA Party constitution and to respect the integrity of the party's organs. We hereby postpone the planned constituency elections in the affected constituencies to a later date that will be communicated by the National Elections Board," read part of the statement by Malala.

However, in a notice on Thursday, Dr. Adrian Kamotho, the vice chairperson of ENDRC, noted that the referenced order by Malala was fake and did not emanate from ENDRC.

"Our attention is drawn to a public notice issued by the acting Secretary General of the UDA party purporting to reference an order of the Electoral and Nomination Disputes Resolution Committee (ENDRC). The referenced order is FAKE and the same did not emanate from ENDRC," read the statement by Dr. Kamotho.

In another notice on Thursday, UDA National Elections Board Chairperson Anthony Mwaura noted that according to the party's constitution, NEB was independent from any direction from any party organ or individual, and therefore any notice purporting to address election matters was unlawful.

"Reference is made to a Notice by acting Secretary General purporting to postpone the ongoing elections in West Pokot County.

"Article 21 of the UDA constitution establishes the National Elections Board as an independent organ of the Party that must act independent of any direction from anybody or any party organ. Resultantly, any notice purporting to address election matters is unlawful, without basis and is therefore null and void," read part of the notice by Mwaura.
