Ian Njoroge was arrested on Sunday, June 2 night by plain-clothed police officers. 

Ian Njoroge who was caught on camera assaulting a traffic police officer on Sunday, June 2 is set to be charged with robbery with violence contrary to section 269(2) of the penal code.

In a charge sheet seen by nairobileo.co.ke on Tuesday, June 4, the suspect is accused of robbing the traffic officer of a battery of his police gadget and Samsung mobile phone worth Ksh 50,000.

“Ian Ngige Njoroge on the 2nd day of June 2024 at Kamiti Road in Kasarani Sub County within Nairobi County jointly with others not before court robbed No. 67839 Cpl. Jacob Ogendo of a battery of police communication gadget and mobile phone make Samsung galaxy note I valued at Ksh. 50,000/- and immediately before or immediately after the time of such robbery wounded the said No. 67839 Cpl. Jacob Ogendo,” the charge sheet read in part.

Njoroge will also be charged with grievous harm contrary to section 234 of the penal code and resisting arrest contrary to section 253(b) of the penal code.

According to the charge sheet, the suspect resisted arrest by Ogendo who at the same time of the resistance was acting in the due execution of his duty.

Njoroge was arrested on Sunday, June 2 night by plain-clothed police officers after a video of him attacking the officer went viral on social media attracting mixed reactions.

The incident happened along Kamiti Road at Mirema Junction, where the traffic officer was controlling traffic.

The assaulted traffic officer was referred to Mama Lucy Hospital for treatment following the incident.
