Makadara Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti who was shot by a police officer in court on Thursday, June 13, is now seeking an urgent blood donation.

In a notice shared by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) male representative at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), the magistrate was currently undergoing treatment at Metropolitan Hospital in Buruburu.

“Urgent appeal for blood donation. This is to kindly request for blood donation for Monica Kivuti. She is currently admitted at Metropolitan Hospita, Buruburu. Your kindness, selflessness, and love is highly appreciated,” read the notice.

In the shooting incident at Makadara Law Courts, the magistrate canceled bond for the police officer’s wife after she jumped bond and failed to offer a satisfactory explanation. 

The officer, who was later identified as Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, opened fire on the Makadara magistrate, injuring her on the hip before the officer was killed by officers present in the court session.

"Police officers on the scene responded and neutralized the shooter, and the Magistrate was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Preliminary reports indicate that the shooter is a police officer who is married to the suspect," Judiciary said in a statement. 

According to the National Police Service (NPS), two police constables were also injured during the incident and were admitted to the Metropolitan Hospital in Buruburu.

Police Inspector General Japhet Koome stated that specialized teams led by the DCI Homicide Unit were conducting an investigation into the incident.

"The Inspector General of Police takes this early opportunity to reassure the Judiciary of the safety of all their staff as they discharge their noble duty. NPS further reiterates its commitment to protect life and property of all Kenyans and many foreign visitors alike," IG Koome added.
