The section of the road will be opened on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of the Uhuru Highway section between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and the Nairobi Expressway Exit.

In a statement on Friday, June 14, KeNHA said the section of the road will not be available for ten days until Sunday, June 23, 2024.

The authority noted that the closure of the section will allow maintenance work to be done on the highway.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to inform the public that there will be a temporary closure of Uhuru Highway (A8) between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and Nairobi Expressway Exit (Museum Hill Exit) along the Nakuru bound carriageway from Friday, June 14, 2024, at 11:00 pm to Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 11:00 pm. This is to allow for highway maintenance works at the section,” read the statement in part.

KeNHA advised motorists intending to use Uhuru Highway (A8) Nakuru bound section to use alternative routes such as Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, River Side Drive, and Ring Road Kileleshwa.

The authority also urged motorists using the road section to approach the affected section with caution.

“Follow the traffic signs and guidance in place as shall be directed by Police and Traffic Marshalls on site. The Authority remains committed to ensure seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage for economic prosperity,” KeNHA added.

The closure of the section of Uhuru Highways comes days after KeNHA closed a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction for 4 days.

The section is set to be opened on Sunday, June 16 following the construction of a mid-span footbridge foundation.
