Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s diehard Nuru Okanga has been released on a Sh 200,000 bond with one surety.
Okanga was arraigned before Milimani Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi on Wednesday, June 19, and charged with publication of false information contrary to the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act and providing telecommunications services without a valid license.
He is accused of unlawfully publishing false, defamatory, and threatening information on several social media platforms including TikTok and YouTube, alongside some websites linked to him.
“In the charges read by Prosecution Counsel James Gachoka, the court heard that on diverse dates between 7th and 10th June 2024, at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya jointly with others not before the court, the vocal activist knowingly and unlawfully published false, defamatory and threatening information knowing it to be false,” the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said in a statement.

Okanga however pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted a Sh 200,000 bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh 100,000.
“He pleaded not guilty to the three charges and was released on a bond of Ksh. 200,000 with one surety or a cash bail of Ksh. 100,000 with one contact person. The case is scheduled for pre-trial on 3rd of July, 2024,” ODPP added.
Okanga was arrested on June 11, 2024, at his home in Kayole estate and taken to the DCI headquarters for interrogations.
He was arraigned in court on Thursday, June 13 where the police were granted five days to detain him at Muthaiga Police Station as they complete investigations into allegations of Publication of false information.
