Wamuchomba observed that, like the failure of committees like NADCO, the one sanctioned by Ruto to address youth issues is bound to end the same way.

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has urged Kenya's young population to give President William Ruto's approach to solving their issues a wide berth. 

The president sanctioned the creation of a multi-sectoral team comprising, among others, political and religious leaders, professionals and government operatives to deliberate on the matters bedevilling the Kenyan youths. 

This was in light of the anti-finance bill protests that spread across the country recently. 

Among the issues to be dissected include unemployment, education and empowerment ventures for the youth.

Reacting to the approach, Wamuchomba implied it would be a waste of time.

She drew an instance from committees created previously, which she noted did not meet their objectives.

The lawmaker fingered the moribund NADCO report which she revealed lies in parliament without any action to the recommendations.

The National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) was constituted in 2023 to address the post-electoral issues that the opposition leveraged to call for anti-government protests.

Ruto suggested the committee look into the issues, bringing to an end the protests that had turned deadly.

Therefore, the multi-sectoral committee proposed by the state will be another cause to waste time and public resources, Wamuchomba said.

"Multisectoral committee will be another theatric to buy time and scatter the already compounding voice of the disappointed youth of Kenya. It’s my opinion that this will be another round of pounding water in a pot. No matter what energy is inputted, no Ugali can come out of it.

To the Gen Zs, this is your constitutional moment; those of us before you do agree that we were deceived, subdued and lost it, a reason why Systems aren’t functioning right now in your favour; no wonder you are up and about greeting us in your absurd styles. My advice is; seize it and press for change. We are looking up to you from afar," she said.

Even as the president purposes to engage the youths, the latter have turned down the invitation.

They argue their movement is leaderless, and thus, no specific figure can come out to represent it.

Via X, the young Kenyans vowed to continue with the protests until the issues they are raising are looked into.

They argue that no taskforce or committee is needed for the government to do the needful.
