Members of County Assembly (MCAs), Members of Parliament, senators, and cabinet secretaries are among the state officers whose salaries have been increased effective July 1.
According to a gazette notice by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi will now receive a monthly pay of Ksh990,000, up from Ksh957,000.
CSs will also receive a monthly salary of Ksh990,000, up from Ksh957,000, while principal secretaries will receive a monthly pay of Ksh819,844, up from Ksh792,519.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula will receive a monthly pay of Ksh1,208,362, up from Ksh1,185,327, while his Senate counterpart Amason Kingi’s monthly pay was increased to Ksh1,208,362.
Majority and minority leaders of both Houses will receive a new monthly salary of Ksh800,019, up from Ksh784,768 while MPs’ and senators’ salaries were raised to Ksh739,600, up from Ksh725,502.

In addition to the salaries, MPs sitting in committees will receive a sitting allowance of Ksh7,500 per sitting, while all other lawmakers will enjoy a mortgage of Ksh35,000,000 and an airtime allowance of Ksh15,000.
Additionally, SRC raised governors’ monthly pay from Ksh957,000 to Ksh990,000, while all MCAs had their salaries increased to Ksh164,588 per month.
Meanwhile, Police Inspector General Japhet Koome was not left out in the new salary scale as his monthly pay was raised to Ksh819,844 up from Ksh792,519.
Other security bosses whose salaries were raised by the SRC include National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director Noordin Haji, Director of DCI Amin Mohamed and their deputies.
The salary increments come amid nationwide anti-government protests after a section of Kenyans took to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with the government’s taxation strategy, among other issues.
