The Ministry of Education has unveiled the Kenya Education Management System (KEMIS) to centralize data on education at all levels of the education system.
In a statement sent to the newsrooms on Thursday, July 4, the Ministry of Education said KEMIS will serve as a one-stop shop for all information on learners at all levels of education.
“The system, codenamed Kenya Education Management System (KEMIS) will serve as a single source of truth and a one-stop shop for all information about learners and other critical aspects of education,” read the statement in part.
According to the Ministry of Education, KEMIS will harmonize education data in the National Education Management System (NEMIS), Technical Vocational Education Management Information System (TVET-MIS), and Higher Education Management Information System (HEMIS).

The system will also allow for the tracking of all learners from pre-primary, primary, secondary, junior secondary, and tertiary education.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Wednesday held a stakeholder forum at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) to discuss the scope of the envisioned system.
The meeting was attended by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Embu and, the Chairman of, the Vice-Chancellor's Committee, Prof. Daniel Mugendi Njiru, Chief Executive Officers from state corporations in the Ministry, officials from the Kenya Primary School Heads Association and the Kenya Heads of Secondary Schools.
“Machogu said the system, which is web-based, will guarantee access to accurate data for planning and strategic decision-making on various aspects of education. He said the system will harmonize the management of data on education from Early Grade levels to higher education,” the Education Ministry stated.
