"Our members shall resume duty in their respective places of work starting today."

The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) has called off a nationwide strike by its members which began in April.

In a statement on Monday, July 8, the union disclosed that it had reached an agreement with the county governments after signing a return-to-work formula.

KUCO asked all the clinicians to report back to their respective places of work immediately and not later than 24 hours.

"We began our strike on April 1 after a seven-day strike notice was issued on March 25, and we have been on strike until today. By virtue of signing this return-to-work formula, we are officially declaring that our strike has come to an end.

"Our members shall resume duty in their respective places of work starting today and not later that 24 hours from the date herein," a KUCO official stated.

On May 15, KUCO maintained that the strike was protected by the court, adding  that it was going to withdraw all its officers from public hospitals.

This came after the Employment and Labour Relations Court issued an order  protecting the clinicians from harassment and intimidation from the county governments.

"Pending amicable negotiations and resolution of dispute the respondents (county governments) by themselves, their agencies, officers or agents are hereby prohibited from harassing, intimidating, punishing or initiating or continuing disciplinary process against union members on account of raising the grievances in dispute, and any proceedings in that regard are hereby stayed," the court directed.

The clinical officers have been rooting for the implementation of their 2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
