"A conducive environment should be created for the benefit of this initiative."

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has committed to the idea of having a national conversation to address the challenges facing Kenyans.

The resolution was reached during an ODM Parliamentary Group meeting held on Wednesday, July 17 at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation.

In a statement, the Raila Odinga-led party noted that a conducive environment should be created for the national dialogue and that all Kenyans should be brought on board.

“The ODM PG/NEC meeting today resolved that we should have a National Convention/Conversation to address long-standing issues that affect Kenyans. That a conducive environment should be created for the benefit of this initiative. Every Kenyan must be brought to the table,” ODM stated.

Meanwhile, Raila dismissed reports that the opposition was having a handshake with the Kenya Kwanza administration saying everyone is annoyed with the current government.

“ODM never said that it was going into bed with Ruto… we never said it. It is a creation of the media. What we are calling for is a National Convention where all Kenyans will be brought on board to air their views. It is a fact everyone is annoyed with KK” Raila remarked.

The ODM resolution comes a week after President William Ruto announced a multi-sectoral forum to address issues raised by Kenyans during the anti-government protests.

The Head of State said the forum which was set to begin on Monday, July 15 would include the religious community, political parties, civil society, and professional groups.

The idea was welcomed by Raila who pointed out that it is the way forward to get out of the current crisis in the country.
