Kenya Railways has acquired four new premium-class coaches for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
Transport Principal Secretary Mohamed Daghar on Monday, July 22, inspected the new coaches at Port Reitz Freight station in Mombasa.
In a statement after inspecting the new coaches, Daghar said the development is a milestone for the Ministry of Transport in elevating train travel experience for Kenyans.

“This new batch includes Premium, First, and Economy Class coaches, all designed to guarantee rider comfort and convenience. This development marks a crucial step in elevating the rail travel experience for all our users,” Daghar stated.
“It is a significant milestone for the Ministry of Roads and Transport as we continue to improve operational efficiency and service delivery in the transport sector.”
According to Kenya Railways, the premium coaches have modern features designed to enhance the customer experience.
The seats in the premium class coaches are also fully reclinable to enhance the comfort and relaxation of SGR customers.
In addition to the new premium coaches, Kenya Railways has acquired 3 first-class and 11 upgraded economy coaches. The corporation also acquired a dining car and a power car.
“The new coaches include 4 premium, 3 first class, 11 upgraded economy coaches, 1 dining car, and 1 power car. The coaches will be introduced on the service soon,” Kenya Railways stated.
Daghar was accompanied by Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Captain William Ruto, Kenya Railways Chairman Abdi Duale, and KRA Managing Director Philip Mainga.
