Members of Parliament demanded thorough investigations into all companies that benefitted from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) billions of supplies.
In a report tabled before the House, the National Assembly Health Committee recommended thorough investigations of all the 83 companies contracted to supply PPE to Kemsa.
“The Director of Criminal Investigations and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission undertake in-depth investigations of any irregularities on all companies including the eighty-three (83) companies that were awarded tenders by the Authority with regards to the disputed Covid-19 procurement,” the committee noted.
“Institute relevant action against those companies found to have contravened the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015 and any other applicable laws,” the report added.
The committee chaired by Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege was probing the alleged procurement mess at the Kemsa.

According to the committee, companies found to have contravened the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015 and engaged in malpractices should be blacklisted and barred from doing business with the government.
Kemsa procurement scandal saw Kenya lose Ksh2.3M, a report by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu said.
The report indicated that some of the companies that were awarded multimillion tenders had only been around for a few months.
