This comes after a section of Cleophas Malala's supporters stormed the UDA Party headquarters.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National chairperson Cecily Mbarire has announced that the party will have an emergency National Executive Meeting (NEC) on Friday, August 2, 2024.

Speaking on Wednesday, July 31, Mbarire said the meeting will seek to address the recent wrangles in the UDA party between Cleophas Malala and lawyer Joe Khalende.

“I wish to announce that we are going to have an emergency national executive committee (NEC) meeting on Friday to resolve the matters that have emerged in the party since yesterday. I wish to assure all our members that as the NEC we shall make sure we solve those matters in a fair and best way possible and the party will be back on its feet and we will not allow what we have seen happen to continue,” said Mbarire.

The Embu Governor also faulted Khalende for declaring himself the UDA Secretary General noting that the party has a well-laid structure on how one occupies the position.

“Whatever happened yesterday was unfortunate the political party called UDA has a constitution with clear party structures and organs within which decisions are made and therefore somebody cannot come to the party and declare himself an official of the party without following the laid down party procedures for him to declare the position they belong to,” Mbarire stated.

She further faulted the hiring of goons to storm the UDA Paty headquarters in Ngong Road to beat up Khalende.

Mbarire pointed out that the UDA party believes in the rule of law and has a clear way and means of dealing with conflicts.

 On Wednesday morning a section of Malala’s supporters turned up outside the UDA headquarters while showing solidarity with the UDA SG.

They could be heard shouting 'tunataka Malala' as some of them carried placards with the words 'bila Malala ni taabu kubwa'.

Police officers were deployed in the UDA offices to stop the Malala supporters from getting into the premises.

On Tuesday Khalende and a section of UDA members stormed the party's headquarters before the lawyer declared himself the new secretary general.
