"I want to assure you that I do clean business."

Mining Cabinet Secretary nominee Hassan Joho has disclosed that he is worth Ksh2.3 billion.

Appearing before the parliamentary vetting committee on Sunday, August 4, Joho indicated that his wealth consisted of his homes, shareholdings in family businesses, valuables, and cash in the bank.

"I am worth Ksh2,361,332,249, largely made up of developed and undeveloped properties, which include my homes in Mombasa, Vipingo, Nairobi, and Malindi, shareholdings in some property holdings and family businesses, valuables, which are basically watches, and cash at the bank," Joho remarked.

At the same time, the former Mombasa Governor affirmed that he was involved in clean business, which can be audited, dispelling allegations that he was involved in drug trafficking.

"I come from a family blessed with businesses and I'm thankful to Almighty for what I have. I want to assure you that I do clean business. Businesses that can be seen and audited.

"I was a vocal critic of the Jubilee administration. I had numerous personal altercations with them, and they targeted my business. If I had been involved in any illegal activity, do you really think I would have survived under that regime?" Joho posed.

Hassan Joho takes an oath.

He also pointed out that his family has never done business with the government, and reiterated that they won't do so if he's approved for the position.

"We are in logistics and diversified a bit in real estate and trading. We are in the logistics business in Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, Dubai, and Kenya. My family has never worked with the government. We don't do business with the government and I assure you we will not do business with the government," Joho affirmed.

Meanwhile, the CS nominee maintained that he was eyeing engaging the United States in investments under the Mining docket if he was approved.

"I am planning to go to the United States. They are known for big investment in mining and it is my plan to go and engage them," Joho added.
