The suspects were attempting to bribe officers from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit.

Two men have been arrested in Nairobi after attempting to bribe detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) with Ksh50,000 in cash.

In a statement on Monday, August 5, DCI disclosed that the two suspects, Jama Hirbo and Tasu Hirbo, were seeking the release of human trafficking victims held at Isinya Police Station in Kajiado County.

"Jama Hirbo and Tasu Hirbo found themselves in hot soup after attempting to bribe officers from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit domiciled at the DCI headquarters with Sh50,000.

"The duo were caught red-handed in Huruma area Nairobi County, trying to grease the palms of the officers to secure the release of human trafficking victims held at Isinya Police Station in Kajiado County," DCI stated.

The suspects were taken into custody at Muthaiga Police Station for further processing, with the bribe money seized as an exhibit.

Meanwhile, in another incident, detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested the OCS for Itabua Police Station for demanding Ksh100,000 for the release of an impounded vehicle.

EACC stated on Sunday, August 4, that arrest was made after the victims called the EACC when the officer threatened to put them in custody if they did not give the amount.

"Earlier in the week, EACC arrested the OCS for Itabua Police Station Mary Syombua Mutunga on allegations of demanding Kes. 100,000 in consequence of which she would facilitate release of the complainants’ motor vehicle impounded and detained at the station, allegedly without any justifiable cause," EACC stated.

The officer was processed at EACC Central regional office before being released on cash bail and ordered to report back on August 7.
