Five family members have died after a vehicle they were travelling in collided with a lorry in Mbaruk area of Gilgil along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
Confirming the Tuesday morning, August 13, incident, Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Jamleck Ngaruiya stated that the vehicle in which the victims were travelling in, a Mercedes Benz, was headed to Nakuru before the accident.
The driver of the vehicle was attempting to overtake before colliding head-on with the lorry, which was coming from the opposite direction.
The Mercedes was carrying six passengers, five of whom died on the spot: a mother and four children, while the driver escaped with serious injuries.
The driver was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment while the bodies of the deceased were moved to the Gilgil Sub-County Hospital mortuary.

The incident comes hours after nearly 20 Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers were injured after the truck they were traveling in was involved in an accident in Gatithi area along the Sagana-Karatina highway in Kirinyaga County.
According to witnesses, the KDF truck was travelling from Karatina to Sagana on Monday, August 12, when it hit a bump and lost control before rolling several times.
The injured KDF officers were rushed to Naji Private Hospital, Kerugoya Hospital, and Jamii Karatina Hospital for medical attention.
