The Principal Secretary of the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, has met with a section of Marsabit County after seven people were killed by gunmen in the area on Monday night, August 12.
In a statement on Wednesday, August 14, Omollo disclosed that the meeting addressed the increased insecurity in the county and urgent actions were agreed upon.
"With elected leaders from Marsabit County, we held a security meeting focused on addressing the rising insecurity concerns and agreed on urgent actions that require interventions by both the county leadership as well as the national government," Omollo remarked.
He further maintained that the government was committed to bringing a long-lasting solution to the cases of insecurity in Marsabit County.
"Through engagements with security agencies, elected leaders and the local communities, we are committed to foster peace and ensure lasting stability in the area," Omollo added.

In the Monday night attack, suspected militants ambushed a lorry at Forole area of Marsabit before opening fire at the occupants.
The militants, dressed in military attire and heavily armed, later set fire to the truck, which was carrying 10 passengers.
According to the police, seven individuals were killed with two others seriously injured. Some of the victims were severely burnt.
A 16-year-old survived the attack unhurt.
