President William Ruto will launch Raila Odinga's AUC candidacy next week.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has announced that President William Ruto will be formally launching Raila Odinga’s African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson candidacy.

Speaking during a joint press briefing with Raila on Wednesday, August 21 Mudavadi said the launch will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

“It is also programmed that next week on the 27th of August 2024, His Excellence President Ruto will be formally launching the candidacy of the Kenyan candidate in the name of Raila Odinga,” Mudavadi revealed.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary noted that it is important for the Head of State to formally communicate to the world that Kenya is rallying behind Raila.

“At this point in time, it is important that the president of the republic of Kenya also communicates formally to the Kenyan people, to the continent, and to the world that we are all rallying behind Raila Amolo Odinga.

At the same time, Mudavadi said the Kenyan government will play its part in helping the former Prime Minister in his campaigns.

He pointed out that Raila will have to crisscross through the entire continent and needs substantial resources to aid the campaigns.

“The government will play its part because this is a Kenyan nominee... To be a candidate apart from you fitting the bill in terms of competence it will also require substantial resources because you are traversing a continent of 55 countries and a population of 1.4 billion people so definitely it is not a walk-in the park and Kenya is ready to walk this journey.

Raila on his part thanked the Kenyan government for supporting his AUC candidature saying it is now all systems go

“I am happy that the Kenyan government has come forward to make a formal candidate, as you have been already told, we have submitted our application as required by the AU secretariat, and from now it is all systems go,” he remarked.

Further, the ODM leader called on Kenyans to support him in his bid to become the next AUC chairperson.
