Fire broke out on Tuesday night, September 10, at Ngombeni Girls Secondary School in Kilifi County, razing down one of the school's dormitories.
Confirming the incident, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung'aro disclosed that the fire broke out while students were attending their late evening classes.
The county boss stated that the fire was swiftly contained by emergency response teams, with no casualties reported and all 703 students accounted for.
"This evening, a fire incident occurred at Ngombeni Girls Secondary School. I wish to reassure all parents and guardians that all 703 students have been safely located, with no casualties or injuries reported. The students were attending their evening prep classes when the fire broke out in the dormitory.

"Emergency services responded promptly, with the fire brigade containing the fire before it could extend to other buildings, such as the science lab. Our medical team was also present to provide aid to students, some of whom were treated for shock," Mung'aro remarked.
He noted that investigations were underway to determine the cause of the inferno.
The fire incident at Ngombeni Girls Secondary School comes after another fire was reported at Isiolo Boys High School on Tuesday night.
In a statement by Kenya Red Cross, the fire was later contained by Isiolo County fire brigade and no causalities were reported.
School fires have been on the rise in the past week after another fire was reported at Isiolo Girls High School on Saturday night, September 7, where three students were injured.
On Thursday night, September 5, a deadly fire broke out at a dormitory in Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni, Nyeri County and the death toll from the incident has since risen to 21.
