The three suspects are being held at Igoji Police Station.

Three 17-year-old persons have been arrested for faking a kidnapping and demanding Ksh 6 million as ransom.

In a statement released on Monday, September 30, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the teenagers planned the kidnapping in Thimbiri, Imenti North, Meru County.

In a typical instance of a misguided desire for quick wealth, the DCI said that three individuals, two males, and one female, staged the abduction of the female.

They then contacted her parents, presenting demands under the threat that their daughter might disappear mysteriously.

"On receiving information of a missing child on September 24, officers at Meru Police Station geared up for a scrupulous manhunt within the locality, reassuring the distraught family whose negotiations with the kidnappers and frantic search for their kin had resulted in futility," DCI said in the statement.

According to DCI, detectives from Imenti North later discovered that the alleged victim had colluded with the two male associates to stage her abduction, to extort a significant amount of money from her family.

Through forensic investigation, the 'victim' and her accomplices were located in their hideout in Kainginyo, Thimbiri.

20 rolls of marijuana were also found in the hideout.

"As the family thanks the good heavens for the safety of their kin, she and her partners in crime are cooling heels at Igoji Police Station pending arraignment for conspiracy to defraud and being in possession of narcotics," DCI further said in the statement.
