The National Assembly has approved the nomination of Prof Kithure Kindiki as the new Deputy President.
In a voting exercise on Friday, October 18, 236 MPs voted in favour of the motion tabled before the House.
Notably, no MP objected to the nomination of Kindiki. No MP also abstained from the voting exercise.
The approval of Kindiki came after President William Ruto submitted the name of the Interior Cabinet Secretary to Parliament.

What Next
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula is expected to communicate the vote of the MPs to the President in the coming hours.
Wetangula will also gazette the results of the voting exercise.
Consequently, Kindiki will be sworn in before officially assuming the office of the DP.
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to H.E. Prof. Kithure Kindiki on his approval as the Third Deputy President under the 2010 Constitution," Wetangula penned in his congratulatory message.
"Prof. Kindiki, a distinguished lawyer with an exemplary academic career, has consistently demonstrated his commitment to public service."
