There are 5 clubs along Kiambu Road, I live in that neighbourhood, and we are coming for them - CS Duale.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said the government will be going after five night clubs along Kiambu Road over non-compliance.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, October 30, the CS said action against the clubs was recommended following an assessment conducted by a multi-agency team between October 25 and October 30.

"It is very illegal to put clubs in residential areas and if you have to do it, there are certain compliance measures that you must put in place like soundproofing. There are five clubs along Kiambu Road, I live in that neighbourhood, we are coming for them, already they have been assessed," the CS said.

This comes a week after Duale ordered the closure of the Fay Bistro Club in Kilimani Estate due to noise pollution.

In a statement, the CS noted that the establishment had violated various laws governing the operations of entertainment joints regarding noise pollution.

Following Duale's order, officials from Nairobi County and the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) were on site on October 20, 2024, to enforce the closure.

"I have ordered the immediate closure of Fay's Bistro club in Kilimani, Nairobi, for noise violations. The NEMA Director General, accompanied by the NEMA Police unit, is on-site to enforce the closure.

"Let this serve as a stern warning to all clubs operating in residential areas: any that continue to play loud music will face the same action. This impunity will not be tolerated," the CS said in a statement.

Elsewhere, on September 17, 2024, Quiver Lounge in Milimani was closed by Nairobi County authorities due to persistent noise pollution complaints from area residents.

Despite previous warnings to address the issue, the establishment failed to comply, leading to its shutdown on September 17, 2024.

"This evening, a joint operation by Nairobi County Liquor, Enforcement and Environment teams’ has been effected in the closure of Quiver Milimani with immediate effect. Order must prevail in the city in the sun,” a statement from the county government read in part.
