Kenya Railways has projected that the train service to Kisumu will resume ahead of the festive season.
In response to questions by Kenyans on social media on Wednesday, November 6, the corporation detailed that the repair of the line was at an advanced stage.
Kenya Railways noted that the works would be done in advance to allow Kenyans to use the railway line during the festivities often characterised by a lot of travel.
"The Kisumu Safari Train rehabilitation is at an advanced stage, and we anticipate its availability during the upcoming festive season," read the statement in part.

The train service to Kisumu was suspended early in the year following the floods that ruined a section of the line.
During the April incident, part of the railway line at Thogoto in Kikuyu constituency, Kiambu County was left hanging owing to a landslide.
“We wish to notify members of the public that commuter train services have been temporarily suspended due to the ongoing heavy rains that have affected the rail lines. We are compelled to take these precautionary measures because the safety of our customers is always of paramount importance to us,” Kenya Railways explained then.
The Kisumu train service was introduced after the rehabilitation of the MGR line from Nakuru.
At the time, the train charges for the economy class were put at Ksh600 and Ksh2,000 for first class.
This was cheaper than the buses which charge close to Ksh1,200 for the trip between the capital city and the lakeside city.
