I want to thank the party for enforcing the changes within the party on time - DP Kindiki.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has been picked to replace Rigathi Gachagua as the deputy party leader of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

The UDA National Executive Committee (NEC) reached the decision to replace Gachagua who was recently impeached following a meeting on Monday, November 11.

Speaking during the meeting, Kindiki said he was ready to serve in the new role, adding that NEC's decision to appoint a new deputy party leader was timely.

"I want to thank the party for enforcing the changes within the party on time as it will enable the party to progress without leaving the deputy party leader post vacant," he said.

Kindiki also promised to work with other external institutions not only to make the party better but the country at large.

"I want to assure you of my unwavering party to the ideals that our party stands for. I will work with all the organs established under our party constitution for the good and better performance of our party," he added.

The new change comes a week after Omar revealed plans to replace Gachagua as the deputy party leader in the wake of his impeachment and his strained relationship with the party leadership.

Omar explained that the UDA party constitution stipulates that the Deputy President should also serve as the party's deputy leader and with Gachagua's removal from office, the party was looking to appoint Kithure as the new deputy party leader.

The SG said the change would be swift once the ongoing court cases are finalized.

"This is purely a political process. No court can give you leadership. The relationship is already strained and he cannot continue serving as the deputy party leader.

"The National Executive Committee, the party's highest decision-making organ will announce Gachagua immediately after the court case is concluded," Omar said on October 30, 2024.
